The round table «Social and ecological business responsibility» will be held in the framework of the Russian Industrial and Environmental Forum «RosPromEco-2013».
The real level of social and environmental responsibility of business is largely dependent on the quality of the institutional environment of business activities. If in the period of market reforms the competitiveness of the Russian economy to the greatest extent determined the possibilities related with the development and sale of natural resources, at present it is necessary to correct business strategies taking into account “principles of state policy in the field of ecological development of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030” approved by April 30, 2011. The President of the Russian Federation, stating that the task for development of economic regulation and market-based instruments within environmental protection is using, including such a mechanism as “enhancement of environmental and social responsibility of business”.
At present the main directions of implementation of social-ecological responsibility for business (in addition to the principles of “polluter pays” and “warn the pollution”) covers the following:
• introduction of technological rationing on the basis of the best available technologies;
• voluntary compliance with environmental standards (standards of environmental management system to ISO 14000; provisions of the European Environmental Management and Audit System EMAS; Joint standard of environmental audit and audit of quality (ISO 19011), national standards of series “Resource saving”, etc.), and the international standard ISO 26000, “Guidance for social responsibility”;
• voluntary use of models for regulation of reporting on social and environmental responsibility, including environmental performance (AA 1000, the global reporting initiative - GRI, Global compact, Equator Principles, Sunshine Standards) and participation in the procedures of ecological ratings of Russian enterprises;
• environmental voluntary agreements and partnerships that allow businesses to concentrate the efforts on solution of multi-sectoral and territorial environmental problems;
• obligatory and voluntary insurance of environmental responsibility.
In the round table of Russian and foreign experts will discuss topical issues of incentives for companies and organizations to solve ecological problems with the help of environmental legislation and other mechanisms. The round table will be held a presentation of the UNDP/GEF Project of Ministry of natural resources of Russia 00077026 “conservation of biodiversity in policy and programmes for development of the energy sector in Russia”.
According to the results of the round table the recommendations will be made and be forwarded to the executive and legislative authorities of the Russian Federation.
